Some backyard inspiration

From the Canadian House and Home, June 2008 edition.

I did it! I finally wrote to my dream house...

So I wrote a letter to the people that own my dream house in Ottawa. The house isn't for sale but as I have previously discussed here, I finally decided to write them a letter. It's an odd time in the Ottawa housing market, I'm totally not sure if this is the right move. It seems like our housing market continues to grow (this makes NO sense!) - with number of houses being sold monthly increasing by comparison to last year. That said, houses are staying on the market longer (from an average of 30 days last year to around 40 this year) and there are wayyyyy less houses being listed for sale.

All that said, I decided to take a chance as the house I love is starting to look a little neglected. I've been watching the neighborhood for quite some time and know that houses at the low end of the scale (asking: 250,000) weren't getting sold last year. They haven't been reposted this year....A few houses on the high end (400,000) have sold so I'm curious as to what the assessed value of the home would be. If they choose to contact us, I have no idea what the next steps will be. We have strong limits on our budget and the house needs some work so that would all be factored in. Who knows? They might never reply! I will let you know ;)

Kitchen inspiration in the Art Deco style

I have recently been on a BIG art deco kick (secretly, in my heart-of-hearts, I REALLY want to buy an art deco house). I found all of these photos in my inspiration file for an Art Deco inspired kitchen. The one above is a modern version, the second is from a doll house (cute!) and the last from an old magazine...sorry, I can't remember the sources (if one is yours, please let me know and I will credit accordingly!!!).

The search for nesting tables

So we used to have this great coffee table and than we got a dog...she whacked her head into it so many times that I just got tired of it always being in the centre of the room. Now, all I want is a set of nesting tables. I can't seem to find ones that I like so I am thinking about going to a local woodworker and having a set custom made. Here are some photos of a set by Johannes Andersen that I really like though they aren't very art deco...

I love how they fit together, so clean and modern!

The info:
Category:Nesting Tables
Color:Brown
Measurements:40 x 70 x 50 cm (DxWxH)

Style:Mid century modern, Scandinavian
Price: Around $690 US

Etsy Pick - Felted accessories by kthurm

I completely love these felted home accessories by Karen Thurman. Seriously, this one shop inspired me to run out and buy books/supplies on felting. Although I now have the stuff and SO want to get started, I know my stuff won't have the same look and feel as hers! My favorite, by far, are her table runners and pillows. Check out more on her etsy shop!
