Apartment Building

There are so many buildings like this around the University of Ottawa - I am really curious about the interiors. I was in a similar apartment building a few years ago on King Edward - it had a marble fireplace and many other original details.

BC Scene - April 21st to May 3rd, 2009

About the scene:

Fusion! It’s in the air in British Columbia. From food to music, via theatre, visual and media arts, dance and literature, B.C. artists are collaborating to present a new kind of artistic experience. In spring 2009, Canada’s National Arts Centre will present 600 artists from all disciplines on the stages of the nation’s capital: it’s BC Scene from April 21 to May 3, and you’re invited.

BC Scene will celebrate a dynamic culture that is the fusion of traditional and contemporary, East and West and established and emerging artists from all parts of the province. Musicians, actors, dancers, visual and media artists, writers and master chefs will be bringing their magic to concert halls, theatres, galleries, bars, clubs, museums and restaurants in the national spotlight.

While showcasing B.C. artists to diverse audiences, the Scene will also offer a chance for 80 national and international presenters to discover the best of contemporary B.C. talent.

With over 90 events, BC Scene will present a vast living portrait of the province, capturing its edgy creativity and palpable energy – one represented by artists from every discipline, fusing history, modernity, cultural diversity and art to create something entirely new.

Easter Weekend - Shoppin in TO

Okay, I'll admit it - for some weird reason we never ever seem to make it to Toronto. We have finally decided to take a bite out of the city and shop for our dream sofa.

Here is a list of the stores that I MUST check out (pity my husband later, I promised him we would do it alllll in a day) -

Via Queens:
Red Indian Art Deco, 536 Queen Street West
Designer Fabrics (but only if I find something I HAVE to have that also needs a serious fabric makeover....) 1360 Queen Street West
Black Plug 1712 Queen Street West
The Ivy 111d Queen Street East
Style Garage 938 QUEEN ST. WEST

Other
West Elm (now available in Canada though still not sure if they will ship outside of TO!) 109 atlantic avenue
Design Within Reach 435 King Street West
(at Spadina Avenue)
The Door Store 1260 Castlefield Avenue
Gus Modern 223 Evans Avenue - cause apparently they are having a sale and they have a dealer in Ottawa (Blueprint!)

So you tell me, am I missing any good ones??

Secret garden inspiration via Canadian House & Home

I love secret gardens hidden into urban centers. I found this one via an old version of Canadian House & Home (dated April 2008). Here are the photos to awe and inspire. By the way, you can buy back issues of Canadian House & Home on their website.

PS. Click on the pictures to supersize!

Edit: OH MY GOD, I just realized that this is the garden of Miles Redd. He really is my favorite designer, oi.
