Light of the Week - A debate!

So I am having a tough time choosing between two lamps available via Pottery Barn for my bedroom. We have an art deco style bedroom (waterfall all the way!) and have just finished a beautiful upholstered headboard. Now all we need are some lamps! I have some beautiful vintage crystal lamps but they aren't big enough so I thought I would invest in some wall lamps. Tell me what you think - first there is the Accordian Sconce (on sale!):

Second option is the Chelsea Swing-Arm Sconce Base:

So tell me, what suits an art deco room more??

Canadian Artist Harry Stooshinoff

Okay so I was cruising around on Etsy (I love that site) and found a wonderful Canadian artist - Harry Stooshinoff. His bio from etsy:

When I was a boy growing up in Saskatchewan, I used to look far into the distance and wish I had more trees around me....to protect me and make the place feel less empty.

Now I have lots of trees around me, but I still like to look very far into the distance.

It's a big, NOISY world...
So I make small, quiet paintings...

It makes a certain kind of sense.

My dream bathroom

My dream bathroom is definitely made up of things I find via Restoration Hardware. I love the Gramercy Double Metal Washstand - double, marble, beautiful. What more could I want? Besides a house to put it in, I mean.

Light of the Week - The Stockholm

Okay, so I don't throw Ikea a lot of bones but I have to admit that they do two things well: shelves and lighting. I love the stockholm series they have available now - they are really similar in style to the foscarini lamp I've previously posted about (mouth blown glass shades!) and for a fraction of the price.

A new tabletop jukebox!

I've always loved these things - but DAMN IT, why can't they make it an MP3 player? seriously! Think of the potential, I would love it forever!!!

A blog that follows a home reno

I love the taste of Nicole Balch, the writer behind Making it Lovely.

As she describes her blog:

I’m transforming my so-so house into a lovely home. Follow along, offer advice, or just get a glimpse into the creative process!

When I’m not working on my home, I’m working on my business, Pink Loves Brown. I design and sell cards, stationery, gift sets, bookplates, pins, magnets, and pocket mirrors. Running my business is my full time job, and I love it. When I have extra time, I take on additional design work at Smart & Lovely.

Light of the Week - The Olinda

I want this lamp. I don't know where I would put it but the price seems reasonable ($235US) and the scale is great!! Found via Room and Board.

Welcome to Canada - Design Within Reach

So Design Within Reach (or DWR) has finally arrived in the Great North. Of course, they landed in Toronto and I have no idea if they plan on making furniture available country-wide via their TO location. From the bits and pieces I have seen, the footprint for the store isn't huge but I'm sure they will order things in by request.

On a related note, I love this Eames Molded Plywood Lounger that they have on their website - especially in red. I wonder if they are comfortable?

Here's the product description from DWR:

The Eames Molded Plywood Lounge Chair (1946) has been referred to as the "most famous chair of the century," with a form that relates directly to the human body and holds no secrets as to how it succeeds technically. Low-slung, with an expertly crafted molded plywood seat and back, this chair cradles the user and features hardwood inner ply for durability. The molded plywood legs provide superior strength and rubber shock mounts buffer against jarring movement. Self-leveling pod glides level on uneven surfaces. This original is an authentic, fully licensed product of Herman Miller, Inc. Eames is a licensed trademark of Herman Miller. Made in U.S.A.

Welcome to Canada! To Regina of Apartment Therapy (Chicago)

I noticed recently that Regina of the Chicago section on apartmenttherapy.com has relocated to Montreal. Yay! Hopefully, she will do some store reviews in Montreal and will discuss places that ship to Canada (I can dream, right?).

Bike Storage Solution - Cycloc

So we recently invested in some Townie bikes and are now trying to figure out the best way to store them in our small space. I love the cyclocs that have been featured on apartmenttherapy.com and wonder if anyone has seen them locally?

Light of the Week - The Diabolique

Now, this isn't really a light - it's only part of one. My mom used to make these over-the-top lampshades, aren't they fantastic? I love the red!

As described by lamplighter in her etsy store:
Completely hand sewn with 3 layers of fabric, white lining for excellent light reflection, beige china silk and finally exquisite dark wine colored burn out silk velvet.

Flor Flor Flor!

On the hunt for the perfect area rug, I discovered Flor. You can mix and match, buy by the tile. They look like a lot of fun and the customizable aspects are fantastic. It also looks like they may ship to Canada, you can at least request a catalogue.

Has anyone seen these available in Canada?

Storage solution for books

So I love stairs and I love books. I should have categories on my blog just for the two. Of course, my favorite source of inspiration is apartmenttherapy - here's one from a while ago, custom designed stairs that are bookcases (AH!). My favorite shots below - more at the source:
