Retro Inspired Kitchen Appliances

So I recently found out about Big Chill via apartmenttherapy. I'm not sure if they ship to Canada (DOH) but I dream that they do...For a kitchen, I always lean towards the classic and clean look of white - but for those who love colour, this line will also meet your needs! They offer red, blue, pink, black, etc etc!!!! And soon, they will offer a smaller version for people in small spaces...

Design for Canadians

I can`t remember how I found MMDH Furniture out of Montreal - probably from a paid ad placement. They claim to offer designer furniture at a fraction of the cost to Canadians - sounds ideal! I wonder if anyone can actually vouch for them as a business...let me know if you`ve tried ordering from them, I`d love to find out how good they are.

Yardley's Antiques

I have a thing for lighting, I definately collect it. Yardley's Antiques (1240 Bank Street) is a fixture in Ottawa and has the most amazing collection of lights. But honestly, the thing I like the most is how they will let you dig through their finials or through their massive collection of chandelier crystals. Their stuff is a bit pricey but there's great selection and it's all rewired.

Bathroom Wallpaper

So I have no idea where I found this picture - it's in a folder on my desktop and I have to admit that I have a thing for wallpaper. Bet you never would have guessed that. Anyone know of a potential source??

I also found this picture:

Here's a closeup:

I know it is from an apartmenttherapy house tour and I also know that although it appears to be wallpaper, it is actually HAND PAINTED. Crazy, no? I want to find some retro inspired wallpaper that is like this.

Where art thou coveted upholstered headboard?

Okay, so I'll admit it - I loved the upholstered headboard that my parents had when I was growing up. It was this fantastic retro orange velvet, my mom kept it well into this millenium because cushy headboards are fantastic. No seriously.

I want to find one like any of these. But I can't find anyone in Canada that has them available for the cheap - I did get a quote from a custom place, I can have my very own for $1200 CDN. And no, I'm not kidding.

Bookshelf of my dreams

So I saw this bookshelf a while ago - I think there is even an online tutorial on how to make your own - but I'm lazy and not so much of a DIYer anymore. No really!

Isn't it awesome though? A bookshelf made of BOOKS!

My new favorite source for fashionable light

So I have a thing for lighting and can never help myself when I see a store with a great window display. I recently discovered Arevco Lighting (285 Richmond Road) I walked into this store a few weeks ago while cruising for a new sofa. Their instore selection was good but small - their website, however, is fantastic!!! I have already found this:

By Eureka Lighting out of Montreal. A Canadian store with Canadian products, available online. What more can you ask for?

These chairs rock my world

Unfortunately, I have no idea where they came from. Why me??

I know that these ones are from a home tour on apartmenttherapy. I really secretly LOVE button tufting.

A firepit dream

I have a tiny tiny yard - but I dream big and when I finally land that half-acre (or larger!), I want to have a firepit. I've always loved the tv show This Old House but had no idea that their website was such a fountain of information. I'll be keeping track of these online instructions for building a firepit.

I love AT home tours

I love apartmenttherapy.com and I reallllly love their home tours. Especially ones that are a great mix-up - I swear this is the hardest look to ever achieve in a home. Stefanie's Old World Modern is the nicest tour I've seen in a while.

CNN for your decorating needs?

I never really saw CNN as a source for home decorating tips...today, I found a great article on getting rid of scratches and dings in furniture - of course their tips came via This Old House.

Okay - get this, it's a HIDDEN TOILET. I thought at first that it was a sink...it's available in Canada and is made by Villeroy & Boch. I think it's such a great idea for small space dwellers, I had to post it. Via This Old House.

Reading Chair

This chair is called the urban ease chair and is by Vancouver-based Bombast Furniture. I wonder if they have any suppliers in Ottawa...

Cute Little Radio

I saw this cute little radio on Apartment Therapy - there are a few other "retro inspired" radios offered at Sundance. I could use this in my spare room or in my retro kitchen... It's a company based in the US but they do ship to Canada.

My Sofa of the Future

In the next few months, I am going to order this beautiful sofa from one of our local stores. Made in Canada - and huge colour selection! I wasn't sure until I finally found a floor model to try out - super comfortable but definately a "sitting sofa". Maybe we'll go for the sectional? It's by LucyAu of Montréal, Québec.
